Zeynep Aslanoba : Sounds Like a You Problem
An Exploration of Isolation and the Human Experience
In a world that increasingly celebrates individual growth and self-realization, we often lose sight of the bonds that connect us. In her latest exhibition, Zeynep Aslanoba delves into the complex interplay between loneliness, the struggle for individuality, escapism and the search for a savior. Through a series of evocative sculptures, stop-motion animations, and two-dimensional fantasies, Aslanoba invites us to refect on the profound solitude and weariness that accompany the daily effort to take responsibility for one’s own life.
Aslanoba’s work poses existential questions about the human condition: Is each person solely responsible for their own happiness? What becomes of those who cannot fnd happiness on their own? Can one fnd joy when surrounded by others’ sorrow? Are we not, to some extent, responsible for the happiness of those around us? And can anyone truly be another’s savior, or are we all ultimately responsible only for ourselves? In her artistic process, she revisits the fgures she once deifed and the saviors she believed she had found, and drew inspiration from them with a satirical twist. Through this exhibition, Aslanoba examines the healing process of those searching for themselves, as if observing from an alien perspective trying to understand the human experience on Earth. By bringing together the conscious stillness of daily life and the deep, dark subconscious in a colorful world, she asks whether anyone can truly save another or if we are all ultimately responsible only for ourselves.
