Kaan Walsh : Butlak Mutlan
Unlike traditional photojournalism, these images do not aim to report. Shot with long exposures and intentional motion blur, the photographs resist stillness. This work exists in the space between witnessing, creating and feeling. Each frame is a fragment of political reality in the streets filtered through my presence raw, restless, and honest. It is my way of not just documenting resistance, but embodying it. Through the distortion of form and the layering of movement, the photographs reflect the turbulence and urgency that underpins collective action. The blurred figures and shifting lights echo the uncertainty and fluidity of these moments, where individual identities merge into a unified force demanding change. The resistance captured here is not just physical but emotional, a pulse felt beneath the surface of public spaces. This exhibition invites the viewer to step into this charged atmosphere, to experience the tension and resilience that characterize protest. It challenges the static gaze, pushing beyond mere observation into a shared space of empathy and reflection. By embracing imperfection and ambiguity, the series mirrors the complexity of resistance itself, a dynamic, ongoing struggle that cannot be neatly contained or defined. This exhibition is a response to an act of bearing witness.
″Butlak Mutlan″ is a “meaningless” statement of the suit and ties. Originated from the term “Mutlak Butlan”, a statement we do not need in our lives but still it’s trying to find its own meaning. This exhibition is an acceptance of the words politicians try to impose on us, but also embracing them on our own terms, reclaiming them and giving them a new, real meaning beyond what they originally intended.

Kaan Walsh is an experimental and street photographer and mixed media artist based in Istanbul and Izmir. After completing his education in International Business in the UK, he continued his studies in Graphic Design in Italy. His work captures the fleeting moments of everyday life using experimental techniques, questioning the boundaries between photography and painting. Drawing inspiration from the streets and overlooked details of life, he offers viewers both personal and universal emotions. His art creates a layered and error-prone process that blends analog and digital techniques. He is currently focused on the Yutugud Studio & Guesthouse project in Urla, which will serve as a space for artists to live, create, and share. He held her first group exhibition (2022) with a video work at Barın Han under the İ me ce Çatısı, followed by a modest photography exhibition in London (2023). He continues to participate in exhibitions in Istanbul in 2025 while focusing on his production in Izmir.
