Defne Cemal & Öykü Topal : Capriole
Ambidexter Gallery happily presents the first duo show of the year. The show consists of two artists both young and aspiring in their own manner. Cemal’s paintings are created with solid, and at times mute, colors covering a very thin surface on the plywood panels. Whereas Topal’s oeuvre, in the series of paintings and drawings she did for the show, are solely executed by intuitive strokes and miscellaneous shapes that form in the process of painting. At a glimpse one can witness the divergent style of the two. Yet the clashing style and artistic idiom of the two artists is the principal implementation of the show.
Capriole; a movement performed in classical riding, in which the horse leaps from the ground and kicks out with its hind legs.
We kindly invite you all to visit this lovely show.
