Contradictory Impulses
Sinem Mucur
(1981) is an interdisciplinary artist who primarily works with photography. Her work has been featured in group and solo exhibitions in Istanbul, Paris, and London. In 2016, she was awarded second place in the Hackney Wicked Art Prize. Her recent exhibitions include: Great Planet Group Show (Paris), Rough Print Gallery winter group exhibition, Hackney Bureau ‘Pique’ (London), Printspace Gallery Sample 13 (London), Sanatorium Gallery London and Laboratory Life (Istanbul). In addition to her personal production, the artist also collaborates with artists and designers in London.
In her work, she attempts to capture the signs of factual existence hidden beneath the transient appearances of everyday life. Fragmented moments come together again, and the constructed and re-constructed records gain their own unique existence, offering an alternative to the experienced moment. The artist uses photography, relying on its material-limited nature, mixing analog and digital methods as a way of staying in the moment.
